My Story

Welcome!  Whether you are a potential reader considering giving one of my books a chance or are already a fan of my work, I sincerely thank you for visiting this website.  I invite you to follow me on Facebook (Roger W. Buenger - Author) or Twitter (@RogerWBuenger), my social media channels, as well as to bookmark this site and frequent it.  Through these venues, I'll be sharing news and updates about my writing.  Over time, I will be expanding the platform and adding lots of new media content designed to entertain and inform my fans, friends, and readers.  For now, since you've come to this page, let me tell you a bit about myself and my career.

I  was born in St. Louis, MO, in October of 1967 and have lived my entire life here in the Gateway City. I am the second son of two wonderful parents who have loved and supported me completely throughout my life, though I am certain some of the gray hair now gracing their heads is my fault.  I attended a parochial grade school, public high school, and graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with my BSBA degree in 1991.  I was the beneficiary of a rock-solid education at every level, and my talents as a writer are largely the product of the combined efforts of many terrific teachers I had along the way.  From there, life happened to me with all of its ups and downs just like it does for everyone else. So, let's fast-forward to today.

I am an ordinary and imperfect 56-year old Dad without any apparent superpowers (at least that I'm going to divulge here), and I am OK with that.  Now, if you want to drink a Bud Light or BBQ next to a pool on a hot summer day, I am your man.  If you want to watch a classic John Wayne movie or perhaps something more contemporary like Last Vegas, we'll get along just fine.  I know my way around the kitchen, bake the BEST chocolate chip cookies EVER, and am not allergic to doing the laundry when called upon.  I collect coins, played competitive team sports (hockey, baseball, basketball, etc.) for over 30 years before my knees wore out, and I love early American history.  My interests are many and varied, and my talents are similar. Yeah, I'm that guy.

Growing up next door to the farm started by my Great Grandpa in north suburban St. Louis, MO, I was very blessed to be exposed to both rural life as well as city life.  Perhaps it was the diversity of that childhood that started me on the journey toward such a broad spectrum of interests and pursuits in life, or maybe it's just an undiagnosed case of ADD.  Hard telling.

Regardless of the reasons for them, my interests and the experiences I have had as a result are invaluable aids in my writing.  My debut novel, Meetings with Jake and Joe, is a product of both my imagination as well as countless real-life bits and pieces I cobbled together to create the story.  In 2013, when I began writing MwJaJ, I had a story in my head, a life-long dream to become a published author, and no clue how to go about it.  It has a been a long and winding road, but it has been a fantastic journey. The overwhelmingly positive feedback I have received thus far is nothing short of humbling.  I am eternally grateful to every single reader who has given me a chance.

Through this website, my Facebook page, and my Twitter feed, I hope to connect with you and keep you informed about my latest book releases and writing projects.  I LOVE to hear from readers and answer every post, email, and message personally.  I always try to do my best, but I won't promise anyone perfect punctuation or grammar.  I'm not an English professor and I don't play one on TV. However, I am a skilled storyteller and my goal is to write novels that will perhaps make the steps in your daily journey feel just a bit lighter.  Who knows where it all goes from here, but I am certainly excited about the future and cordially invite you to come along for the ride.

I hope to hear from you, and I SINCERELY THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for your support!

Roger
